4 tools to increase your self-awareness and make it your unfair advantage in business

In the entrepreneurial world, we often hear the phrase “unfair advantage” being bandied about. An unfair advantage is your competitive edge as a business person. It’s unfair because it can’t be bought or copied. It’s unfair because you have it for just being you.

An unfair advantage could be an enormous amount of expertise you bring in pivoting from one industry to another. It could be your reputation or network. Or really good communication skills in an industry where most people are not good communicators.

I would say there is one unfair advantage that gets frequently overlooked: self-awareness.

In life and in business, your greatest competitive advantage is your self-awareness.

What is self-awareness?

Self-awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions. Self-awareness allows you to understand other people, and also understand how they perceive you.

It sounds obvious, but as we know, it’s often the most straight-forward things in life that trip us up.
